13 die in rain related incidents in FATA, K-P

MET office predicts weather to continue for next 24 hours

PESHAWAR: The Met department predicts more rain with gusty winds in various parts of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and FATA in the next 24 hours as death toll from rain-related incidents reached 13, with 31 people injured on Sunday.

As per reports shared by the FATA Disaster Management Authority (FDMA), 11 died in roof collapse incidents in Bajaur Agency and Khyber Agency of FATA on Saturday, while the Provincial Disaster Management Authority of K-P reported 3 deaths and 2 injuries in the province.

According to PDMA, Amir Bostan, a resident of Shangla died and five others suffered injuries on Saturday as a tree fell on their vehicle. Another person died in Nowshera after being hit by lightning. One rain-related death was also reported in Mardan.

In Bajaur Agency, six people died and 16 got injured when the roof of a seminary collapsed. Similarly in Momand Tehsil a married couple was killed as their home’s roof caved in.

Similarly, in Khyber Agency, at least two people were killed and 12 injured in road accidents during heavy storm. Rescue teams also recovered body of a child who was swept away by floodwater

The Met department predicts partly cloudy weather in most parts of the province. However, thunderstorm and rain coupled with strong gusty winds are expected at scattered places in Upper Dir, Lower Dir,  Swat,  Shangla, Chitral, Malakand, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Battagram, Kohistan, Haripur, Torghar, Mardan, Swabi, Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera, Kohat, Hangu, Karak, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, Dera Ismail Khan and Tank districts.
