Allergy patients continue to stream into NIH

Patients to continue to come in until end of May

ISLAMABAD: While the pollen levels in the capital have fallen to a manageable level after reaching highs of over 43,000 per cubic metre of air, allergy patients are still streaming in health centres with complaints of mild –complications

According to an official at the Allergy Centre of National Health (NIH), allergy patients will continue to come in to the centre by until the end of May, even though a low-risk season is prevailing.

He said that unlike during the high-risk season, the number of patients coming in with complaints of pollen allergy was quite limited and that the NIH will continue to serve such patients until the season ends by the end of May.

He asked the pollen allergy patients to continue taking allergy medicine as this prevents their body from releasing histamine and other chemicals which cause the symptoms. The official further said that pollen is one of the most common triggers for seasonal allergies. Many know pollen allergy as hay fever while experts usually refer to allergy as seasonal allergic rhinitis.
