ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) secretary Safdar Hussain Tarar disowned on Wednesday an SCBA resolution opposing the role of former judges in the forthcoming interim government.

The SCBA official, talking to The Express Tribune, said that he does not support the stance of bar members regarding the role of ex judges in the caretaker government.

"I was not present in the SCBA meeting when this issue was raised by SCBA vice president Fareed Ahmed A Dayo", said Tarar.

Ishrat, Jilani to be PTI nominees for caretaker PM

The issue was raised by the lawyers of Professional Group's Hamid Khan in the bar meeting on May 7. Tarar belongs to Asma Jahangir group which is not supporting the resolution.

Last month, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) proposed the names of former chief justice of Supreme Court Tassaduq Hussain Jilani and Former State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) governor Dr Ishrat Hussain for the slot of caretaker prime minister.

According to the Constitution, a caretaker PM is appointed by the outgoing prime minister in consultation with opposition leader. The two leaders present three nominees each and a single name is subsequently chosen with consensus.
