Telcos to guard their installations in Mohmand

Networks to be suspended in the event of any security operation

SHABQADAR: With cellular networks restored in Mohmand after two-years, cellular network providers have announced that they will be reinvesting their net profits from the area in the health, education and communication sector, as part of their corporate social responsibility.

This was disclosed by Mohmand Asistant Political Agent Tauseef Khalid while providing details of the corporate social responsibility (CSR) project in Mohmand.

He added the decision had been announced by the regional heads of the cellular companies at a meeting held in Ghallanai, the agency headquarters of Mohmand. Apart from Political Agent Wasif Saeed, members of the political administration, the FC commandant Muhammad Irfan and officials of the cellular companies had participated in it.

During the meeting, Saeed sought assistance in welfare activities for locals including in education, health, water supply, irrigation, skill development co-curricular activities for the youth and students and other sectors.

After the telcos showed their interest in the proposal and assured that they will engage their respective CSR departments, Saeed asked the companies to share three-year plans for this purpose.

A representative from cellular companies assured the political administration of their support for uninterrupted service provision and to assist the political administration and LEAs in case of any security emergency. Security officials decided that In case of any emergency or operation on any actionable intelligence against militants, the cellular companies will temporarily suspend networks on the request of the political administration.

Mobile operators charging almost 200% higher for off-net calls

It was decided that all cellular network providers will take steps for security arrangements of their installations. They could ask the political administration to requisition the services of civil armed forces in the agency.

Cellular companies will also make prepare a feasibility for installing booster stations and extending coverage to the Baizai Sub-Division on the Pakistan-Afghan border.
