PESHAWER: Police successfully resolved the murder of female Careem driver Nabeela Amber alias Kanwal and arrested her husband on Monday.

Addressing a press conference at Gulbahar police station, ASP Hassan Jehangir stated that Nabeela was killed by her husband Abdul Basit, who initially told the police that his wife had been killed in an armed robbery.

Police recovered the 9mm pistol used in the murder along with a car and five cellphones of the deceased. The husband confessed to killing his wife in order to take control of her house.

“The sister of the deceased, Saira Sahar, lodged an FIR with police stating that her sister Nabeela was a driver of the transportation network company Careem and that she was alone at her house when an unidentified person entered her house and opened fire at her, killing her on the spot,” informed the ASP, adding that the deceased Nabeela was earlier married to Ilyas Khan but they divorced, after which she married Basit.

“Police started an investigation on the case initially assuming it to be a robbery attempt, but during the investigation, we reached the conclusion that the accused Basit, who is the husband of the woman, was responsible for killing her. We recovered five cellphones and a motor car from his possession, Basit killed his wife in order to take control of her house," added the police official.

The accused will be produced before the court and a case has already been registered against him.
