LAHORE: A woman, who was admitted to Mayo Hospital after her in-laws allegedly burnt her alive, died on Monday.

The in-laws of Fauzia Bibi, a resident of Majeed Colony, Shahdara, set her ablaze when she had exchanged some harsh words with them over money for running the kitchen. Bibi sustained severe burn injuries and she died on Monday.

The body was shifted to a morgue for autopsy. An FIR under section 324 (attempt to murder) of Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) was registered against her in-laws. However, they were on bail, police said.

They will insert section 302 (intentional murder) after her death in the case, arrest the suspects and would investigate the matter further, they added.

Robbers injured in encounter

Two robbers were injured in a police encounter with a team of Dolphin Squad in Gulshan-e-Iqbal on Monday.

A Dolphin Squad team was on a routine patrol when they received a call on 15 that two motorcyclists were trying to rob people.

The suspected robbers had been involved in robbery bids and had snatched cash, jewellery and other valuables from citizens.

The patrolling team started searching for the suspects and spotted them near Ravi Block and started chasing them. On observing the police team, they started running. At some point, they dropped their motorcycles and jumped into a nullah. The police team kept on chasing them, but the suspects opened indiscriminate fire on them. As a result, police fired back and they suffered injuries. Police arrested them and shifted them to a nearby hospital.
