Water level in Surab reaches dead level

Building of dams is indispensable as storages have dried up

The underground water level in Surab Sikanderabad area has reached the ‘red zone’. The previously held storage capacity of 150ft has now gone down to 800ft.

It is assumed that the prime reason for the dead level  in the prolonged drought season is because of lack of dams and unhindered addition of tube wells in farms by landlords.

Most of the areas are out of water as their storages have been dried or near to the end level. It is very concerning that the water supplied through tube wells stops [dries up] after two or three months.
However, due to uncertain conditions the landlords are forced to add extra tube wells in order to save their gardens and lands.

Still thousands of tube wells in various areas are dried up. Due to continued drought of last nine years the agricultural lands have lost fertility. The water level is now down to a danger level.



People are still reeling from the nine years of drought and now they have entered into another five years of drought season due to which the water level has reached the dead level.

The federal government turned a blind eye to the prolonged nine years drought season by not taking any measures to construct new dams.

Moreover, it seems there is no change to the five-year drought season and it will remain the same. If the government had taken productive measures to tackle the situation by building dams, there would not have been any dead level.

There is still ample time to overcome this problem and bring back the water level back to an optimum level.
