Interior division gets 35% higher share

Proposed allocation has been made for a total of 112 PSDP schemes

ISLAMABAD: In the budget for fiscal year 2018-19, the federal government has proposed Rs24.207 billion for the Interior division under the Public Sector Development Programmme (PSDP), which is 34.72 per cent higher than the previous fiscal’s allocation.

The proposed allocation has been made for a total of 112 PSDP schemes out of which 72 are new while 40 are ongoing schemes.

Last year, the Interior division had been allocated a total of Rs15.67 billion under the PSDP for 23 new and 38 ongoing schemes.

The federal government allocated Rs11.680 billion for new schemes and Rs12.527 billion for ongoing schemes under PSDP in the fiscal budget for FY2018-19.

Under foreign assistance, the government has proposed Rs170 million for the total budgetary allocations in the fiscal budget of 2018-19, which is 50 per cent lower than the last fiscal’s allocation.

Allocation for new schemes

A total of Rs1 billion have been proposed for the establishment of Anti Riot Force (ARF) and construction and accommodation of 2,388 officers of ARF. The project has an estimated cost of Rs8.278 billion with its status of ‘unapproved’ as yet.

Moreover, Rs1 billion has also been approved for Police Hospital Islamabad, which has the estimated cost of Rs2 billion with its status also as unapproved.

The Islamabad Bus Service Project has been allocated Rs500 million, which has the estimated cost of Rs2.5 billion that also awaits approval. Another Rs500 million have been specified for the street pavement/sanitation in rural areas of ICT Islamabad, which has an estimated cost of Rs1.200 billion.

The construction of FC hospital for Frontier Corps (South) Turbat, Headquarter FC Balochistan has been allocated Rs450 million while Rs400 million has been allocated for the construction of the Frontier Corps K-P hospital at Bara Road Peshawar.  The same amount has also been proposed for the construction of ICT Administration Complex Phase-II.

The construction of roads in rural areas of ICT, Islamabad have been proposed for Rs400 million. Another Rs400 million has also been allocated for construction of accommodation, training and administrative blocks, and barracks for the establishment of Rapid Response Force for ICT Police Islamabad (Phase-II).

PSDP for Interior division for ongoing schemes

The government has proposed Rs700 million under PSDP for the construction of model prison at H-16 Islamabad, which was approved by Executive Committee of National Economic Council (ECNEC). The project has the estimated cost of Rs3.928 billion. The expenditure till June 30, 2018 of this project stands at Rs1 billion.

The government has proposed Rs500 million for provision of security infrastructure in Malakand, Swat and other conflicts areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhawa. This project was approved by ECNEC on May 26, 2011 and it has an estimated cost of Rs2.97 billion.

The construction of accommodation for Bhittai Rangers at Karachi Phase-I (revised) has been proposed Rs600 million by the government. The project was approved by Central Development Working Party (CDWP) on August 21, 2017.

The government has proposed Rs657 million for the construction of accommodation for Abdullah Ghazi Rangers at Karachi. This project was approved by CDWP on March 4, 2015, which has an estimated cost of Rs2.87 billion.

The government has proposed Rs800 million for the capacity enhancement of CAF management of Western Border by raising of Headquarter Frontier Corps Balochistan. The estimated cost of this project is Rs2.167 billion, which was approved by CDWP on October 19, 2017.
