QUETTA: Senate Deputy Chairman Saleem Mandviwala has said that attempts to make Senate elections controversial will fail as they were held democratically and without any hidden pressure.

Mandviwala, who is also the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) central leader, stated this while addressing the media at the Quetta Press Club on Friday.

PPP Provincial President Haji Ali Madad Jattak, General Secretary Syed Iqbal Shah, Information Secretary Sar Buland Jogezai, former senator Rozi Khan Kakar, Lala Yousaf Khilji and other provincial PPP leaders were also present on the occasion.

The Senate deputy chairman said, “If the Senate polls were tainted, then why did the political parties, including Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, PPP, Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party and the National Party participate. They should have boycotted the elections.”

Refuting speculations that the PPP’s political future in Balochistan and other provinces was over, Mandiwala said, “The PPP has never been ousted from any corner of the country. Our party is gaining momentum as hundreds of people from across the country are joining the party.”

PPP calls it ‘most controversial elections’

He said, “In 2018 elections, PPP will again come to power and hold the reins of the country.”
He said that PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari was going to visit Quetta city in the next few days, urging all party workers to meet him and apprise him regarding their issues.

He said that if anyone within the party had concerns then they could meet him personally in Islamabad. “My doors are open for all Jiyalas,” he added.
Slamming severe criticism over the election of Senate chairman and deputy chairman, he said, “We have been elected following a complete democratic process and those attempting to make the Senate elections controversial will face complete disappointment.”
