ISLAMABAD: A four-day Chilum Joshi Festival is set to kick off in the Kailash Valleys of Chitral from May 11.  The annual festival, which will be held in three Kailash Valleys of Bumburate, Birir and Rumbur, will see Kailash girls and boys dance to the tune of traditional drumbeats.  A large number of tourists, including foreigners, from all over the world are expected to participate in the festival.  The festival is expected to start with 'milk day' when the Kailash people offer libations of milk that have been preserved for 10 days prior to the occasion.  The celebrations would highlight their cultural richness, a plethora of colours and the underlying message of peace.  In the festival, the Kalasha people would seek the blessing of their god and pray for the safety of herds and crops of the community.  The women would be dressed in traditional clothes with vibrant colours with gold and silver jewellery and elaborate headgear.  Men will wear traditional shalwar kameez with a woolen waistcoat.
