Modern methods vital for sustainable urban development

ISLAMABAD: Town planners and architects need to keep abreast of changing trends in the industry and try to infuse the legacy of Muslim architecture in their work to give a modern yet indigenous touch to their work said Islamabad Mayor Anser Aziz.

The recently completed Koral and Sohan interchanges are an example of a unison of techniques, aesthetics and latest technology which resulted in an addition to the beauty of the capital city, Mayor Aziz said inaugurating a three-day exhibition of building materials and products at Institute of Architects Pakistan Exhibition (IAPEX).

“We have to train our architects and town planners in line with modern standards,” he said at IAPEX where manufacturers have displayed their products, while various local and international architects will highlight changing trends in architecture, urban development and building material industry.

He said that Islamabad is the only city of Pakistan, developed with a master plan.

Moreover, the mayor expressed appreciation for the architectural pieces created during the Muslim era. The exhibition will help provide information to local and national developers about variety of materials and construction methodologies. He added it could be an opportunity for local developers and town planners to learn from the expertise of others.
