KARACHI:
The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has announced to give election tickets to new members in the upcoming elections so that the new leadership can be familiarised with the party and parliamentary level politics.

Sources close to the PML-N stated that a strategy was devised in a party meeting where leaders reviewed the political situation and the cases take up by the National Accountability Court against the party representatives.

After consultation with the party, a message was sent to the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) that if they do not cooperate in the upcoming federal budget a protest at the political level would be lodged.

“The upcoming federal budget should not be opposed in such a fashion that the secret talks for next interim prime minister are politically harmed,” relayed PML-N sources.

Khawaja Asif’s disqualification sparks joy and grief in political camps

However, the secret talks resulted in an agreement pertaining to the candidate for the interim premiership and how he should have cordial relations with all the constitutional and political institutions.

The foremost priority of this interim PM will be to co-operate with the ECP and hold public elections on time, revealed PML-N sources.

According to PPP leader Nafisa Shah, if the federal ministry presented the entire budget, PPP through the parliamentary option and consultation among opposition parties will record its protest in the parliament.

She added that opposition leader Khursheed Shah is holding talks for the selection of the interim prime minister and there is a possibility that a deal can be reached which is according to the constitutional law.

After the disqualification of Khawaja Asif, Senator Mushahidullah Khan or the Defence Minister Khurram Dastgir could be given the additional responsibilities of the foreign minister.

If both the options are rejected by party representatives, the PM would act as the foreign minister.

Party representatives who faced disqualification from the judiciary and the future associations of these representatives with the party will also be reviewed.

It is possible that party tickets can be issued to family members of disqualified representatives but such decisions will be taken after careful consultations.

According to PML-N sources, party members who have left to join other parties will have new members take their place.

For such vacant seats, senior party members and political workers will be issued new party tickets and all the matters concerning such issues will be reviewed by party leaders who will issue the list of approved candidates contesting the elections.

Sources relayed that PML-N leadership had tasked incumbent PM Shahid Khaqan Abbasi to speed up the reconciliation efforts with parliamentary parties so that the National Assembly can approve this year's budget.

PML-N leaders concluded that they will support any non-controversial candidate nominated from PPP and will also withdraw their candidates in the process.

The foremost priority of the new interim premiership will be to conduct fresh elections.

While speaking to Express News, PML-N Information Secretary Senator Mushahidullah Khan said that PML-N is formulating its policies for the upcoming elections according to the current political situation.
