LAHORE: After the ‘rebellion’ of eight Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) lawmakers from southern Punjab earlier this month, another ruling party MPA, Karam Dad Wahla, has joined the Janoobi Punjab Suba Mahaz (JPSM).

A member of the Punjab Assembly from PP-219, Wahla announced his resignation on Wednesday during the JPSM’s mass-contact drive launched in Khanewal by the movement’s secretary general Tahir Bashir Cheema.

Speaking on the occasion, Wahla said he left the ruling party just to protect the rights of the people of south Punjab. He said he found all demands of the JPSM legitimate.

“It is necessary to declare south Punjab an independent province on administrative grounds as it is impossible for any government to govern 110 million people from Sadiqabad to Murree under a single unit,” he added.

Wahla said the government spent Rs240 billion on Lahore’s metro train alone as compared to just Rs206 million on 40 million people of south Punjab.

Speaking on the occasion, Cheema said Khanewal is the gateway to south Punjab. He said the JPSM was working on an apolitical and noble mission.

“It is our prime objective to win due rights for the people of south Punjab. It is a good opportunity for the people of the region and the JPSM will not let it go. It will bring fundamental rights for the children in south Punjab,” he added.

Former MPA Pir Jameel Hussain Shah and another contender for a National Assembly seat, Sohail Zaman Khaga, have also announced joining the JPSM.
