In a bid to cool down the political temperature, Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani on Sunday said that the PPP-led coalition government believed in consulting all political parties before arriving at a national consensus on key policy issues.
The prime minister, along with his two sons, was visiting Punjab Governor Sardar Abdul Latif Khosa at his personal residence in Lahore when he made those remarks.
“We are determined to strengthening democratic institutions in the country,” said Gilani. He is also reported to have directed the governor, also a member of the PPP, to prevent political instability in Punjab, the largest province in the country.
The PPP’s rival PML-N is the ruling party in Punjab. Tensions between the two parties have risen since the government announced a coalition with the PML-Q.
