The food authority said that it had also sealed three units of a bakery located on Charsadda Road in Peshawar.
A team of the authority raided a factory located on Phando Road in Peshawar. The factory was listed as dealing in mustard oil. However, during inspection, the authority’s teams found that in the basement of the building, broken and outdated machinery and a tank of used oil, full of dirt, were discovered.
Upon inquiry, officials learnt that the factory was also repacking used oil in new packaging and then supplying it to samosa and fried chicken restaurants at cheaper rates.
K-PFSA Director Administration Shoaib Khan, who led the raid, said that the factory was collecting used oil from different food handlers, repacking it and then selling it back into the market on lower rates.
Moreover, he said that the factory imports raw palm oil, and then packs it directly without processing it to remove impurities.
