‘Leaving for Islamabad’ to face accountability court, Maryam tweets at London airport

Nawaz Sharif and his daughter were in British capital to visit hospitalised Kulsoom Nawaz

Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and daughter Maryam arrived at London’s Heathrow airport on Sunday to fly back to Pakistan.

The former first daughter wrote on Twitter: "At the Heathrow, leaving for Islamabad". She added that they would arrive in the wee hours to appear before the accountability court on Monday.

The father-daughter duo were visiting ailing Kulsoom Nawaz, who was hospitalised on April 17.

Sharif and Maryam left for London on April 18 with a promise to return in time for the next hearing in the corruption references filed against the Sharif family by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in an accountability court.



Speaking to the media on Saturday, the ousted premier claimed that while other political parties take dictations from ‘powers’ that be, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) only relies upon the will of its voters.

The PML-N Quaid referred to a speech by Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) chief Sirajul Haq, in which the latter had said that the directives to elect Sadiq Sanjrani as Senate chairman came from ‘higher-ups’.

Sharif also said Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan should clarify whether the orders came from Pakistan Peoples Party Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari or "someone else".

The ruling party leader added that he had a lot to say but doubted that it could be aired on television. “Expressing views are being banned in Pakistan,” he said, adding that a democracy would never restrict the media or freedom of expression.
