Rs60m recovered on lead from LG officers

Physical remands of both the accused have been obtained from accountability court

KARACHI: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB), Karachi has recovered local and foreign currency, prize bonds and gold worth Rs60 million in raids during two days on the houses of two accused involved in organised corruption in provincial local bodies department. A large number of property documents was also recovered during the action.

NAB Karachi on Wednesday had arrested during two different actions the front man of LB officer Qamarudin and MDC West’s Director Establishment Javed Qamar and long serving personal assistant of Secretary LB Ramzan Solangi. Up to Rs20 million of local and foreign currency was recovered during the raids. In another raid, Ramzan Solangi was arrested from his office. On a lead from him, the NAB investigation team raided his home on the night between Wednesday and Thursday and recovered Rs40 million worth of currency, prize bonds and 50 tolas of gold.

Physical remands of both the accused have been obtained from accountability court.

Meanwhile, the accountability court has handed over Solangi to NAB authorities. He has been working as personal secretary to the Local Government secretary for a long time. The accused used to collect kickback money from DMCs and UCs every month. He was arrested on the information by LG officer Javed Qamar who was arrested by NAB two days back. He is in NAB custody on physical remand.
