2014 carnage: Two testify in Model Town killings case

Hearing in accountability court resumes today

LAHORE: Two witnesses on Monday testified before the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in the Model Town killing case.

The court adjourned the hearing till today (Tuesday) after store keeper Javed and cameraman Azeem recorded their statements.

The ATC is conducting hearing of the case on a daily basis on the directions of the Supreme Court.

Earlier, the court had indicted 116 police officials on a private complaint filed by the Minhajul Quran and the Pakistan Awami Tehreek, seeking their trial over the killing of their workers during a police action in 2014.

SC directs ATC to expedite Model Town case

The court had, in 2017, partially admitted the complaint against 125 officials of police and district government while rejecting it to the extent of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif and 10 others, including MNA Hamza Shahbaz, Law Minister Rana Sanaullah, Railways Minister Khwaja Saad Rafiq, Foreign Minister Khwaja Asif, former information minister Pervaiz Rashid, State Minister Abid Sher Ali, former interior minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, then personal secretary to chief minister Syed Tauqir Shah, Home Secretary Azam Suleman and then Lahore commissioner Rashid Mahmood Langrial.

Appeals of the accused officials summoned by the trial court were pending with the Lahore High Court.
