Lahore minor 'assaulted' by neighbour

Accused and family fled when police raided their residence

LAHORE: Police said on Monday that a five-year-old girl had been allegedly assaulted in Batapur area.

Officials said 20-year-old Umair Ali, a neighbour of the victim, attempted to rape the girl after taking her to a haveli. Police said he fled when the minor's mother reached the spot. Officials said the suspect and his family had gone into hiding by the time a police team conducted a raid at their house.

Earlier, Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar took notice of the alleged rape and murder of an eight-year-old girl in Chichawatni, according to reports.

The deceased was burnt after being raped. The girl was taken to a hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.

Taking notice of the incident, CJP Nisar ordered Punjab IG Arif Nawaz to present a report in 24 hours. Protests rocked Chichawatni on Tuesday following the incident.

Relatives said the mentally-challenged child was taken to the Chichawatni DHQ before being shifted to Lahore’s Jinnah Hospital. Muhammad Younus, who works at the burns unit of the facility, said the child received burn injuries on her face, chest and private parts.

An FIR of the incident has been registered.
