Chichawatni case: Police term minor girl's death accidental, DNA report awaited

Doctor who conducted initial postmortem says final conclusion could not be reached until final DNA report received

Police have stated that the minor girl allegedly raped in Chichawatni was not subjected to sexual abuse and termed her death accidental, Express News reported.

The initial investigation report was submitted to the Supreme Court (SC) on Saturday and police said witness testimony also stated that the girl was not subjected to rape.

Police officials also added that the initial report did not find any traces of sexual abuse either. "The Punjab chief minister constituted a special investigative team which has reached the same conclusion," police stated

According to the police report, the girl left her house and bought fireworks from a nearby store. A few minutes later she was found screaming near her house.

"After the incident, the statements of 19 people were recorded. Chemical report of the minor's clothes and shoes is also awaited. We assure the court that investigation will be concluded on the merit of evidence," the investigation report stated.

According to the report, initial tests of four items recovered by Punjab police at the site show no seminal evidence. "In this case, death is due to shock and dry heat burn, but final opinion will be given after the victim's DNA report."

The report further states that the doctor who conducted initial postmortem said a final conclusion could not be reached until final DNA report from Punjab Forensics Agency is received.

CJP takes notice of Chichawatni minor's rape, murder

The seven-year-old was found with severe burn injuries hours after she left home to candy from a nearby shop last week. The child, who was mentally challenged according to her family, was first taken to DHQ Chichawatni for initial treatment.

She was later referred to the Burns Unit of Lahore’s Jinnah Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries. Protests rocked Chichawatni following the incident.

Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar on Thursday took notice of the alleged rape and murder of the minor.
