Chaired by film-maker Shekhar Kapur, the jury of the 65th National Film Awards decided to present the award to Khanna. Addressing the media, Kapur said that he wished he had worked with Khanna at least once.
Khanna passed away at the age of 70 on April 27, 2017 after battling bladder cancer. The late actor starred in several Bollywood hits such as Insaaf, Chandni and Amar, Akbar, Anthony amongst many others. He was also a member of Indian political party, BJP.
