LAHORE: The life of a 24-year-old girl, who was a student of MBA Finance in Faisalabad, was cut short after she fell into River Ravi late on Thursday night.

On the day of the incident, she had come to meet her friend who was a student of engineering. Later, they tried to cross Ravi Bridge when Natasha, the victim, fell into the river. She was admitted to the Mayo Hospital, but could not survive.

Police took her friend Ali Shan into their custody and shifted the body to the morgue. They also collected forensic evidence from the crime scene and recorded statements of witnesses.

They also informed the family of the victim who reached Lahore after a few hours, but refused to initiate any legal action.

A police officer told The Express Tribune that according to initial investigations, it was an accident. The victim and Ali Shan were good friends and also belonged to the same village.

On Wednesday, they had come to Lahore for shopping and a recreational visit. At night, they came at the spot through a ride-hailing service to grab a bus for Faisalabad.

Natasha was trying to cross the bridge when she accidentally fell into the river.  Shan also told the police that the death was caused by an accident. He added there was a gap between the new bridge and the old bridge and the victim fell into the water after failing to see it in the dark.

A police officer said that after the incident, Shan had not only informed police, but also helped shift the victim to the hospital. However, he said additional facts would be revealed after a proper investigation.
