Met office predicts fresh spell of showers

Also warns of possible heat wave in Karachi

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Meteorological Department has predicted a new spell of showers during the next week as a new shallow wave is likely to affect western and upper parts of the country from Saturday (today) night which will result in rain coupled with thunderstorm in the country.

Therefore, considering the weather situation, the Met Office has warned about possible land sliding coupled with isolated hailstorm in mountainous and sub mountainous areas of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P), Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan (G-B) from Saturday night onwards.



According to the Met Office, thundershowers with gusty winds are expected at scattered places in K-P, FATA, Islamabad, and Upper Punjab, including Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Sargodha, Lahore, Kashmir and G-B.

Harsh rainfall is also anticipated in northeast-Balochistan from Sunday to Friday. The rains are expected to reduce the day temperature in these areas from two to five degree.



It is going to be the second rain spell of the month; meanwhile Indus River System Authority (IRSA) is hoping that this new spell of showers will help to further improve water situation in the two major reservoirs of the country after which water share for the provinces will be further increased to meet their demand.

Heat wave in Karachi

On the other hand the Met Office has also warned of a possible heat wave in Karachi as maximum temperature is likely to fluctuate between 35 to 37 degree centigrade from April 14 to 16 while minimum will remain between 25to 27 degree centigrade.
