The demonstrators blocked the road leading to Safoora Chowrangi and brought traffic to a standstill. Universities amendment bill referred to assembly with ‘minor changes’
The bill grants the Sindh government sweeping powers over varsity admission policy. It also allows for any provincial bureaucrat to be named university VC. Usually, the position is held by those with a background in academia.
Protest against Universities Law Amendment Bill continues
Following the passage of the bill, the Sindh government will also be represented in the KU syndicate. Karachi University Teachers' Society (KUTS) has also expressed their reservations over the bill with members having staged several protest demonstrations over March.
