Mohmand Agency abolishes taxes on 38 items

PA Wasif Saaed says exemption from taxes to facilitate the poor

SHABQADAR: The political administration in Mohmand has abolished agency level taxes on 38 items, including food items in an effort to facilitate the poor, according to reports.

The decision was announced by Mohmand Agency Political Administrator Wasif Saeed, along with MNA Bilal Rehman, in a press conference held at Ghallanai.

PA Wasif Saeed said that a subsidy or exemption from taxes on the items on the list will result in losses worth Rs0.5 million per month to the political administration of the agency, but the shortcoming will be fulfilled through the enforcement of economic discipline and grants from the FATA Secretariat.

Earlier, Saaed had also abolished taxes on issuance of domicile, passport and identity cards in Mohmand Agency.

Mohmand Agency has billions of metric tons of marble and other precious stone reserves, which is a major source of income for the political administration in the agency, which receives Rs1,500 to Rs5,000 per truck on a daily bases in taxes on these items.
