As the president of the International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) faces another legal battle for his post, he has received backing from varsity academics.

A delegation of the Academics Staff Association (ASA), headed by its president Dr Bashir Ahmed, called on IIUI President Dr Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh on Tuesday and expressed their satisfaction with his leadership.

The delegation told Dr Al-Draiweesh about the issues facing the teaching community. On this, the IIUI president directed the relevant authorities to solve the issues on a priority basis.

Dr Al-Draiweesh said that progress of the university must be their top priority, while promotion of research must be the attribute of the teaching fraternity.

ASA delegation also included General Secretary Saeed Badshah and Information Secretary Dr Arshad Malik.

Last week, Islamabad High Court (IHC) sought a reply from respondents in a case challenging the extension of IIUI President Dr Al-Draiweesh.

Petitioner Shad, challenging the appointment of Al-Draiweesh as the president IIUI, had contended that his tenure of six years is illegal and that the Board of Trustees can only appoint a president for a term not exceeding four years.
