SHABQADAR: Two students of a religious seminary went missing when a boat they were riding in hit a pillar of a bridge at Sardaryab in Charsadda on Thursday.

Around 13 students of Jamia Saeedia, Warsak Road, Peshawar, were on a picnic and enjoying a boat ride in Kabul River, Deputy Commissioner Muntazir Khan told the media while inspecting the rescue operation at the site.

The boatman lost control and crashed into the pillar of a bridge and the boat capsized, he said.

While some children managed to swim ashore, others were saved by local swimmer, but two remained unaccounted for, the Deputy Commissioner said.

Yasir and Osama were missing and the rescue teams are trying to find them. Deputy Commissioner said it has not been confirmed yet that they have drowned or may be drifted to the bank at some distance.

He told that a committee headed by district police officer has been made to investigate the incident as in past few years such incident had happened due to boating in the river to prevent further death in river.
