First-ever police public school approved

Board of Revenue releases Rs74.4 million to purchase over 12 kanals land for the project

LAHORE: The Punjab police will establish the first-ever police public school, for which the Board of Revenue has approved Rs74.4 million.

The board has given the Punjab police funds for purchasing over 12 kanals plot located in Harbanspura. In this regard, the department wrote a letter to Punjab Police Inspector General (IGP) Captain (retd) Arif Nawaz Khan, informing him the funds that had been deposited for purchasing the land.

DIG Operations Dr Haider Ashraf said the school would accommodate approximately 1,000 students. It will also provide free education to the children whose parents were either martyred, retired or serving policemen.

“As far as the welfare of the force is concerned, this step is of prime importance,” he said. “Our policemen are unable to afford the exorbitant school fees of private schools. This leads them to withdraw their children from such institutions or forced them to adopt unsavoury practices to support their families,” he remarked.

A few months ago, they had established a police welfare hospital at Qila Gujjar Singh, where policemen and their families could avail free medical treatment.

These steps were meant to improve the welfare of the force. Without the welfare of the force, changing thana culture would remain a distant dream, he maintained.
