1,146 rebels, families evacuate Douma district in Syria's Eastern Ghouta

DAMASCUS: A total of 1,146 rebels and their families evacuated the Douma district in the capital Damascus' Eastern Ghouta countryside on Sunday evening, state news agency SANA reported.

The rebels are militants of the Failaq al Rahman group, who had fled their areas in central Eastern Ghouta toward Douma ahead of the recapture of their areas by the Syrian army recently.

Douma, which is the last rebel-held area in Eastern Ghouta, is controlled by the militants. A new deal was reached in that area on Sunday for the evacuation of the militants toward the northern Jarablus city near the Turkish border.



But the Failaq al Rahman militants who sought refuge in Douma had to leave to join their comrades who have recently evacuated to the northwestern province of Idlib ahead of the departure of Islam Army militants.

The Syrian army entered the areas that had been controlled by the Failaq al Rahman on Saturday evening after the last batch of them evacuated toward Idlib.
