Official word: Number of extortion cases decline

7% decline too in the overall murder cases as 379 cases were recorded as against 407 murders of the previous year

PESHAWAR: Although the menace of extortion continues to haunt the people of K-P, there has been a decline in the total of number of cases as eight cases were registered against the 18 cases of last year in the first three months, says a handout issued from Central Police Office (CPO).

There was a seven per cent decline too in the overall murder cases as 379 cases were recorded as against 407 murders of the previous year.

By the same token, there was no kidnapping for ransom case in this year as compared to the 11 cases last year. Four people were killed in terrorism-related incidents against the nine such cases last year.

K-P witnesses over 50% decline in terrorism cases compared to 2016

Police registered 1,123 cases against those involved in the misuse of loudspeakers across the province compared to 1,034 cases last year. Child abduction cases remained the same at six cases. Last year there were six cases of child abduction in the first three months of the year.

K-P Police Director Public Relations DSP Waqar Khan said that there was considerable decline in the militancy and terrorism cases across the province.
