Bin Laden operation: US envoy summoned

US Embassy denies ambassador was summoned - says meeting was routine.

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Thursday summoned United States Ambassador Cameron Munter to protest the Osama bin Laden operation carried out by US forces in Abbottabad.

Munter was summoned to the Foreign Office in Islamabad.

Express 24/7 correspondent, Sumera Khan reported that Foreign Office sources have said that the US ambassador had met with the Foreign Secretary and DG America. The foreign secretary lodged a formal protest against the US not taking Pakistan into confidence over the operation.

Spokesman for the US Embassy, Alberto Rodriguez denied that that Munter had been summoned and was at the foreign office for a formal meeting with the foreign secretary.

A team of elite US Navy SEALs swooped secretly into Abbottabad on May 2, shooting dead bin Laden nearly 10 years after the September 11, 2001 attacks.

The United States, on May 5, said that President Barack Obama reserved the right to take action again in Pakistan. Despite Islamabad’s complaints that the raid was unauthorized and unilateral, Obama’s spokesman Jay Carney said the president was prepared to target fugitives again if they are found in Pakistan.

noor | 13 years ago | Reply Dear Uncle Sam, you say that Osama lived in Abbotabad & Haripur for 7 years; fine! then how many times it happened that you tried to capture him & Pakistani agencies informed him to get displaced? Your allegations are a bundle of lies, nothing else. You just want to prove that you are a gangster & can violate any country's sovereignity, and started with a nuclear power so that other countries should also get a lesson. If a nuclear power will not resist or retaliate, others should be ready for a similar fate, if the gangster thinks he wants to do it over there.

Ik | 13 years ago | Reply Mr Thinking, pls dont call the chinese unreliabble. Their focus is on development, infrastructure, economic progress of their country. They are intelligent enough not to become a proxy between ind & pak. For the same reason, they didn't support us in all of our lost wars against india. Ofcourse, they have trade benefits & interested in mineral deposits for their own interests. But that is also not wrong!

They don't want to be your friends. They want to use you for a transaction and dump you the moment it becomes inconvenient to them.

Energy hungry Chinese are Intelligent to get into trouble like Americans and they will only use our resources / Gwadar Port which they badly need. Nothing beyond. Its better if the officials keep quite., otherwise it has become like a reminder to US for drones. Why remind the amrikans to remind & get droned.

It also a fact, Pakistan know nothing about Osama living in Pakistan since long, it mean direct military operation is justified? no, not justified, before proceeding it was moral and legal duty of the United States to informed Pakistan and acted under agreed intention. American leader ship understand Pakistan its ally,common mental approach in Pakistan is against it,every one seem that they understand Pakistan a slave. It can not be disregard, the whole nation is united against the drone attacks, which are also violation of international law,but they continued, we can not stop killing of innocent people,including women and children. Vide the Raymond Devise case, they put everything a side and used power in shape of dollars,got released a man killer of three Pakistani young man and took him to the united States. It doubtless, when people of Pakistan says, china is our true friend, who raised vice in such circumstances,china moved forward warned the world enemy Pakistan is not alone,she is with us . Reality is reality, United states can not be our true friend, whose policies run on the Israel.s indication, Indian pressure is also use against us. Time has come, Pakistan would have to say bye USA and increase relations with China Russia Iran and other like countries, It is too nice, our interior minister visited Iran and had talks with Iranian president, our president visited China and best result appeared and now visiting Russia that is very good direction, But I would like to say herein that,it would be better if other national leaders and parties like N-league etc take into confidence before starting this uphill task.

Cheeko Beeko | 13 years ago | Reply Despite unilateral raid by US government at OBL’s hideout, Government of Pakistan should maintain cordial relations with the US government as finally US has cut the head of Al-Qaeda once and for all. US gave 10 long years to Government of Pakistan to hunt OBL but unfortunately GoP could not come up with the expectations. What Pakistan needs to do is to forget about the raid in Abbottabad and should try to find out the remaining Al-Qaeda men in Pakistan. If Al-Qaeda is eradicated from Pakistan is will bring peace and prosperity in the region. GoP should not make fuss about the issue. Whatever is done is done. If GoP will keep on arresting dead or alive Al-Qaeda men, it will have all the necessary cooperation and financial aid from the US which has now become subject to the approval of the Congress.
