Pakistan's Ambassador to the United Nations Maleeha Lodhi articulated demands during a session of inter-governmental negotiations whereby a discussion regarding reforms within the UNSC was taking place.
The ambassador stressed that equitable representation was the primary imperative behind the reform efforts. However, the council was only representing eight per cent of the UN members.
Lodhi pointed out that one-third members of the United Nations have never been a part of the Security Council. She added that representation and accountability are two sides of the same coin. Greater accountability is tied to greater representation which is necessary to achieve the objectives of global peace and harmony.
