Following the incident, local residents surrounded the A Section police station, demanding the arrest of police constable Waris Ali and the registration of an FIR against him.

However, the constable said that the mayor was sleeping and he requested the children to stop making noise. He claimed that when he tried to stop the children, adults of the locality stepped in,  snatched his rifle and tore his collar.

Ali was detained but released an hour later.

According to SHO Asif Hayat, the mayor told the police that he was unaware of the incident. Quoting Hussain, the SHO said he was sleeping when the incident took place. SHO Hayat also claimed that the mayor removed the constable from his security duty.
