The Prime Minister’s House has rejected the claim made by former information minister Pervaiz Rashid that ex-interior minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan cannot contest elections on a Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) ticket.

According to the PM House statement, the decision of Nisar’s party ticket would depend on the parliamentary board of party.

Rashid's claim came in the light of Nisar's recent comments against the party policy and its leaders, Express News reported.

The communiqué also added: “The decision will not be made by one person, it will be formed after discussions with the board and a special board is formed to determine the fate of party tickets.”

‘Razor-sharp tongue’:Maryam leading PML-N to dead-end tunnel, says Nisar

According to the ex-information minister, the PML-N is preparing to go into the general elections this year with the same strategy that it was currently pursuing, and had no plans to change or abandon it.

He said, "The future of Chaudhry Nisar in the PML-N will be decided by Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and now Nisar has to choose whether he wants whether to stay in the party or go down a different path."

Last week, the former interior minister said that Maryam Nawaz’s razor-sharp tongue was leading the ruling party to a dead-end tunnel.

In a reaction to ousted prime minister Nawaz Sharif’s metaphoric remarks, Nisar, through a statement, also reminded Sharif that favours exchanged between them were mutual in kind.

He said, “For the past one year I have been facing matters and issues with great patience in a bid to not harm the party. To a great extent, I have cut off myself from mainstream politics and got myself limited to constituency-based politics. However, this is unfortunate that for the past eight or 10 months I am being victimised.”

Will quit PML-N if Maryam is made its leader: Chaudhry Nisar

Nisar further said, “I was made a target sometimes through self-made jokes or sarcastic sentences and sometimes through references to those incidents that never happened. When nothing could be achieved through such tactics efforts had been made to ridicule me by planting questions through a group of blue-eyed journalists.”

“She [Maryam] is not the party leader but if she is given the mantle I will quit,” he added.

While referring to certain quarters in the PML-N who denounced him for opposing the ousted prime minister’s challenging the Supreme Court’s verdict in the Panama Papers case, Nisar said: “When nothing could be found against me they began to question my friendship with Imran Khan."
