Pakistani community's role in the social development of US acknowledged

The 78th Republic Day of Pakistan was organised at the auditorium of East West University in Chicago

With Illinoisans celebrating 200th anniversary of becoming the 21st state of the United States of America, we congratulate Pakistani community for celebrating their day of constitution, said Lt Governor of Illinois Evelyn Sanguinetti who was the chief guest of the event.

The 78th Republic Day of Pakistan was organised at the auditorium of East West University by the Consulate General of Pakistan, Chicago.

Speaking on the occasion, Lt Governor appreciated the role of Pakistani-American Community for the social and economic development of the United States. Talking to this correspondent, she said that Illinoisans are celebrating their 200th anniversary this year and the Pakistan its 78th National Day which is of immense pleasure for us also.

"200 years ago, on December 3, 1818 Illinois became the 21st state in the union. Now is the perfect time pay tribute to the amazing people of places, and things that are being born built and grown in Illinois every single day and we want the Pakistani community to come along us as we are also sharing them on this joyous day when the country achieved its goal of adopting first constitution of Pakistan," said Sanguinetti.

She recalled the memories of 2014 when Peshawar Army Public School was massacred leaving over 100 pupils killed and she immediately ran to the Consulate office where Tirmizia was saddened and burst into tears of this brutality.

LT governor lauded the determinations of Faisal Niaz Tirmizi, Consul General Pakistan of Chicago whose untiring efforts linkage Pakistani community into American political arena, and strengthening ties between both the countries.

Faisal Niaz Tirmizi Consul General of Pakistan of Chicago in his speech said, "we have proven it time and time again and the incidents of terror which were quiet frequent have come down significantly now and I am sure and its matter of time and that’s a joint endeavor of US and Pakistan that we have to eliminate bigotry extremism because like US, Pakistan also got independence through a struggle against British Colonial masters and through a democratic process and we truly hold it near to us.

The trust between Pakistan and the United States built over generations and has stood the test of time over the last seventy years, said Consul General Tirmizi while thanking the political leadership of the region for their participation at the Pakistan’s 78th National Day Reception in Chicago.

Congressman Peter Roskam and Congressmen Danny K Davis also attended the event. While speaking on the occasion they besides congratulating the Pakistani people, highlighted their ties with strong Pakistani-American community in Midwest.
