Former interior minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan has said that Maryam Nawaz’s razor-sharp tongue was leading the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz to a dead-end tunnel.

In a measured reaction to Nawaz Sharif’s metaphoric remarks, the senior PML-N leader, through a statement on Thursday, also reminded Sharif that favours exchanged between them were mutual in kind.

The senior PML-N leader said, “For the past one year I have been facing matters and issues with great patience in a bid to not harm the party. To a great extent, I have cut off myself from mainstream politics and got myself limited to constituency-based politics. However, this is unfortunate that for the past eight or 10 months I am being victimised.”

He further said, “I was made a target sometimes through self-made jokes or sarcastic sentences and sometimes through references to those incidents that never happened. When nothing could be achieved through such tactics efforts had been made to ridicule me by planting questions through a group of blue-eyed journalists.”

Besides blaming a group of journalists, Chaudhry Nisar also strongly criticised the role of his former colleague Senator Pervaiz Rasheed without mentioning his name and termed him as a tool used to humiliate him.

“There was only one person who was used as a puppet to ridicule me. This person neither has ideological affiliation nor any political connection with the Muslim League. However, this is also evident that a puppet never dances on the powers of his strings,” the former interior minister stated.

He stated that Sharif and his daughter Maryam’s comments compelled him to give his reaction.

“Mian Sahib it is God who grants favours and not human beings. If you think that you have been granting favours to the people then there are many who have played a vital role in elevating you to the position that you are at. You must also be grateful to such persons,” he stated.

As far as Maryam was concerned, he said, her razor-sharp tongue had been leading the party to a dead-ended tunnel. “I can reply in the same tone but still I have respect for this family so I will state only a verse of Munir Niazi to express my feelings: Adab ki baat hay warna Munir socho to, jo shaks sunta hy woh bol bhi to sakta hy (It’s a matter of respect otherwise Munir think, a person who listens can speak also),” he added.

Chaudhry Nisar also warned that if puppets and tools were not restricted and a ban not imposed on their statements against him then he reserved the right to a detailed reaction.

Recently during a hearing regarding a National Accountability Bureau (NAB) reference against Sharif and his family, the former premier, while talking to media-persons, had cited a quote of Hazrat Ali (AS), “Beware of the one’s evil with whom you have done good”.

He also narrated a verse from Mirza Ghalib’s work, “Jab tawakko hi uth gai Ghalib, kyun kisi ka gila karay koi (When expectations remain no more Ghalib, then why complain about someone).

On the same occasion his daughter, Maryam, had narrated a famous piece of poetry of Mian Muhammad Bux: “Changiya naal te neki karye naslan tak nahi bulday, buray naal je neki kariye tukhiyan chalan chalday (If you do good with good people they don’t forget for generations, but if you do good with evil people they cheat you).”

According to reports, after this episode journalists inquired from Sharif about Nisar’s statement. However, he declined to respond.
