Afghan envoy calls on PM Abbasi after deadly Kabul attack

Prime minister condemns today's terror attack that claimed 26 lives

Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi condemned the terrorist attack on a shrine in Kabul on Wednesday which claimed 26 lives.

The premier stated this during a meeting with Afghan ambassador Omar Zakhilwal who called on the former in Islamabad today, said the Foreign Office in a statement.

Ongoing efforts for lasting peace and stability in Afghanistan between the two countries were also discussed during the meeting, the communique added.

The premier expressed his solidarity with the government and people of Afghanistan over this brazen act of terrorism.



During the meeting, the FO added, Abbasi underscored Islamabad's desire to strengthen engagement with Kabul to foster mutually beneficial cooperation in diverse fields.

The two leaders agreed that institutional interaction and high level exchanges are imperative to enhance bilateral trade and economic cooperation.

Abbasi stressed the need to expedite ongoing regional projects including the TAPI [Turkmenistan–Afghanistan–Pakistan–India Pipeline] and CASA-1000 [Central Asia-South Asia power project.]

PM Abbasi reiterated Pakistan’s support to the efforts for Afghan reconciliation under an Afghan-led and Afghan-owned peace process.

Zakhilwal lauded the prime minister's support to strengthen bilateral relations while also conveying Kabul's desire for meaningful engagement with Pakistan in all areas.
