Police arrest 15 men for betting on PSL matches in Karachi's DHA

Police conducted on Sunday a raid at a gambling den in Defence Housing Authority (DHA) and arrested 15 operators of an international gamblers' network.

The raid was conducted on a tip-off at a bungalow on Khayaban-e-Janbaz in DHA's Phase-V within the Darakhshan police station's remits.

The suspects were identified as Atif, Faraz, Faisal Patni, Ghulam Qadir, Taimur, Zaheer Abbas, Zia Abbas, Zulfiqar, Faisal, Farhan, Fahad Dehdhi, Jafar, Waqas and Waqar. The arrests were disclosed at a press conference by Clifton SP Tauqeer Naeem.


FIA arrests 10 human smugglers

The police said the gang had rented the bungalow for gambling. They also claimed that due to internal conflicts, some members of the same gang had tried to target the bungalow in 2017 with a grenade. However, another building was mistakenly hit in the attack.

According to the police, the suspects had been betting on the Pakistan Super League (PSL). The police also claimed to have recovered cash over Rs600,000, 16 mobile phones, three laptops and other gambling implements from their possession.

Sources privy to the matter said billions of rupees have already been invested in gambling on PSL 3 and cash has been transferred to foreign countries, including India and the United Arab Emirates, through hundi. The arrested suspects were also reportedly betting for for the upcoming PSL final on March 25.
