‘Establishing varsities in each district will end illiteracy’

UAF VC says scholarships worth billions are being provided to students

FAISALABAD: There is need to establish universities in every district of the country. It will help end illiteracy and alleviate poverty.

This was said by University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF) Vice-Chancellor Dr Muhammad Iqbal Zafar as he spoke to faculty members, a press release issued on Friday stated. He said the government was providing scholarships worth billions of rupees to students of deprived segments of society to continue their journey of education.

The VC lauded the Punjab government’s approval of upgrading the UAF sub-campus in Burewala as an independent university. He added that the provincial government’s special initiatives, education and agriculture-friendly policies were opening up new chapters of glory and progress in the country.

He said Punjab Chief Minister was taking revolutionary steps to address the problem of masses and enabling them to cope with challenges of the modern era. The vice-chancellor maintained the government’s efforts will increase the income of a common man that will help alleviate poverty.

He said the establishment of independent and full-fledged university would provide opportunity to the students of Burewala and Vehari to quench their thirst of quality education. He said that the Punjab government had put agriculture on top of the development agenda under which new methods were being introduced among the farming community, thus helping them to increase per acre yield.

He said that Punjab government had introduced Connected Agriculture Platform which was providing millions of smart phones with agricultural apps in order to educate the farmers about the latest methods, climate, soil fertility and other useful information.
