Syed Darbar Ali Shah, 60, was killed while returning from a mosque after offering Friday prayers in the Nasarpur area.
Tando Allahyar district SSP Aftab Ahmed Nizamani told the local media that personal enmity appeared to be the motive behind the killing. He said that DSP Sattar Kashmiri and DSP Liaquat Dars will be investigating the incident.
On Saturday, the police registered an FIR on the complaint of Darbar's brother, Syed Sajjad Ali Shah, nominating eight suspects, including six with their names. The FIR contains Sections 302 of Code of Criminal Procedure and 6/7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act. Shakoor Chutto, Ilamuddin Chutto and Arzi Chutto are among those charged for the murder.
Emerging political alternatives to PPP in Sindh
Police sources said that two suspects were rounded up during the raids that followed the killing. However, the arrests have not been officially declared. In 2014, three men were killed in a clash between the Chutto and Parehar communities. Darbar was perceived to be supporting the Parehar community in the clash.
Provincial minister Imdad Pitafi, MNA Abdul Sattar Bachani, MPA Syed Zia Abbass Shah Rizvi and municipal committee chairperson Syed Imdad Shah Rizvi attended the funeral, besides other PPP leaders, notables and government officials.
