Low Income Housing: Over 10,000 units being built

The Minister said Rs430 million would be spent on welfare projects this year, compared to Rs2.15 billion last year.

PESHAWAR: The federal government has pledged to release Rs10 billion for construction of different social welfare projects including construction of 10,000 residential housing units for low income people in the province.

This was stated by Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Labour Sher Azam on Monday.

Under the plan, he said, 10,000 residential quarters would be constructed for Lakki Cement Factory’s labour colony and special focus would be given for Regi Lalma’s modern labour residential colony as well.

Fast track programmes will be launched in other parts of the province aimed at providing housing to labourers.

The Minister said Rs430 million would be spent on welfare projects this year, compared to Rs2.15 billion last year.

Likewise, Rs900 million would be spent on the education of the children of labourers, besides increasing the death grant from Rs0.3 million to Rs0.5 million.
