ISLAMABAD: The Rawalpindi bureau of the apex accountability body arrested a former chairman of the civic authority and former member finance for their alleged involvement in the Shakarparian Cultural Complex case.
Former Capital Development Authority (CDA) chief Imtiaz Inayat Elahi and former member finance, Saeedur Rehman were arrested by National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Rawalpindi Bureau for over misusing their powers in the project, a statement issued by the accountability body read.
According to the issued statement, Elahi and Rehman had ordered to halt work on the project without providing a substantial reason, misusing their authority, negligence and causing a loss to the national exchequer.
The suspects were produced before an accountability court in Islamabad where NAB was granted their seven-day physical remand. According to details the Shakarparian Cultural Complex was being built and was expected to cost around Rs1.1 billion.
The complex was expected to contain an administration block, two cinemas, a conference hall, a seminar hall, a cafeteria, a coffee shop, an auditorium and an amphitheatre.
While work on most of the building had been completed at a cost of Rs420 million, only work on the amphitheatre and the auditorium was left.
