This was stated by the Minister for Climate Change Senator Mushahidullah Khan as he spudded a tree in the iconic roundabout on Monday. He was accompanied by Parliamentary Secretary Romina Khursheed Alam, Islamabad Mayor Sheikh Anser Aziz, Climate Change Ministry Secretary Khizer Hayat and officers of the Green Pakistan Programme.
He added that the plantation campaign began in February and they had since organized various activities to create awareness among the masses about tree plantation.
At the moment, he said, they were in the middle of the “Ghar Ghar Aik Shajar” tree plantation activity in which volunteers were going door-to-door to educate people about the importance of planting trees and were distributing plants.
The drive, he said, aims to reach around 10,000 homes in the capital and that students have already reached half of their target, around 5,000 homes.
The minister added that members of a parliamentary panel had demanded that trees should be planted in the Parliament Lodges under the Green Pakistan Programme.
