Police foil terror bid in DI Khan

Police seize ten hand grenades, arrest several suspects.

Police and security forces on Monday foiled a terror attack by seizing explosives and a huge cache of weapons from a college hostel in Dera Ismail Khan.

Ten hand grenades were among the seized explosives. Police also arrested several terror suspects  in a search operation, which is still underway in many areas.

This is not the first successful operation against terrorists in DI Khan. Just two days ago, two would-be suicide bombers were killed in an exchange of fire with the police near a checkpost on Zhob Road.

Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and tribal areas have been struck by violence since hundreds of Taliban and al Qaeda fighters sought refuge there after the US-led invasion of Afghanistan in 2001.

The government has claimed a number of military successes against the hardliners over the past two years, but attacks continue across the country and are concentrated in the northwest.

Last week, American special forces killed America's most wanted terrorist al Qaeda kingpin Osama bin Laden in a late night operation  in the garrison town of Abbottabad. Al Qaeda confirmed the death of their leader and vowed revenge.
