Property battles: Widow turned out of home by son and in-laws

LIAQATPUR:

A woman has appealed to the authorities to restore her property after she was turned out by her relatives on Sunday.

According to police officials, Romana Aleem, the widow of Abdul Aleem, who died seven years ago was tortured and turned out of her house by her in-laws and her son.

Romana said that after her husband’s death his nephews Abdul Hameed, Abdul Majeed and Abdul Waheed and her son Kashif had seized her property and turned her out.

“I wasn’t left with much after my husband’s property was distributed. I only had a tiny one bedroom house but they took that after beating me with sticks for hours,” she said.

Romana said that her in-laws had also convinced her son to side with them in the matter.

“My three younger children live with me but we have no where to go,” she said. Romana said that her in-laws refused to transfer property in her children’s name as her elder son had wanted the major share.

RY Khan District Police Officer (DPO) said that he had filed her complaint and that police were investigating.

Salman | 13 years ago | Reply People you got it wrong..Islam is not our religion it is The Religion of Humanity.. Furqan is rightly said you should have study the laws of Islam and our so called Constitution.. People are always blaming the Religion for that especially "Islam" why have u all follow the Islam in proper way.. Pakistan was create in the name of Religion but we haven't got Islamic Laws implemented in our social life. So you can't blame religion in this.. Do you know what is our constitution is all about it is about how to protect a powerful or elite but not poor. Its just like "Jis ki laathi us ki bhains".
Gappoo | 13 years ago | Reply @Shanil Khan Hi Shanil, I don't think Furqan is passing judgement on what he thinks the role of a woman in society should be. I think he was just trying to explain the logic behind the inheritance ruling in the Quran, which I believe he has got right. I believe the share of inheritance for the male child is double that of a female child because, if the female chooses (emphasis on "chooses") to sit at home and take care of the family, she has the right to be completely supported financially by her husband. If she isn't married, then her father or brother is responsible for supporting her financially. I am NOT saying at all that a woman needs a man to survive and I would actually encourage women to play an active role in society by contributing financially and socially. However, if she voluntarily chooses to stay at home, Islam provides her the complete right to do so and claim on her husband/brother/father's financial support to maintain her. Hence, the larger claim to inheritance for the male child as compared to the female child. This is the ruling - the way it is interpreted/applied and the social problems are man-made and should not be blamed on Islam. Just my two cents :-)
