Journalists from both print and electronic media participated in the ground-breaking ceremony.
Dozens of journalists, officials of the Lyari Development Authority and contractors were present to participate in the construction, which remained a dream for over 1,200 journalists who were allotted plots. Several senior members who had stakes in this housing scheme died before the beginning of the construction.
Karachi Press Club President Ahmed Malik, who has a leading role in bringing journalists together to build their houses, and most of the senior members of the club’s body were there to encourage those willing to live in the Media Town.

Journalists asked the Sindh government to help them to construct their houses, provide basic needs like water and electricity and build roads in and around Media Town. The land was allocated by former prime minister Benazir Bhutto in 1997. Journalists asked both Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah to help them complete the scheme.
