Sindh bans sale, purchase, display of toy guns

Move comes after Rangers wrote to home dept on negative effect of toys on children’s minds

KARACHI: The Sindh government imposed a ban on Friday on the manufacture, sale, purchase, use and display of toy guns and pistols. According to a notification issued by home department, the ban will be implemented throughout Sindh.

The decision was made after the Rangers sent a letter to the home department and reported that the use of toy guns and pistols for criminal acts has been commonplace in Karachi and other districts of the province. “The use of toy guns by children causes grievous injuries and negative effect on the children’s minds,” the letter said, adding that considering the possibility of use and effectiveness of dummy weapons for street crime, the Pakistan Rangers strongly recommend that a complete ban be imposed on the sale and purchase of all type of toy guns.



The home department endorsed the Rangers’ report and said in its notification that the provincial government is satisfied that in order to avoid any untoward incident of robberies, street crime and ensure the safety and security of human life as well as keeping peaceful environment for general public it is necessary to take immediate measures. “In pursuance of Section 195 (1) (a) of the Code of Criminal Procedure, the police stations concerned are hereby authorised to register complaints under Section 188 of the Pakistan Penal Code in writing for the violation of this order.”
