PESHAWAR: The provincial social welfare department has requested senior citizens to register to become eligible for basic facilities under the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Senior Citizens Act 2014. Under the law, people who are over 60 years-of-age have to apply for a senior citizen card. The registration process started this week. Senior citizens can download registration forms from the social welfare department’s website and submit them to any district office of the department. According to the Senior Citizen Act 2014, those holding senior citizen cards will be eligible for free treatment and medicines to OPD, and free entry to libraries, parks and other public places. Talking to The Express Tribune, K-P Social Welfare Department Planning Officer Niaz Khan said that initially the facilities were being provided in six districts, but now had been expanded to the entire province.
