KHANEWAL:

District Coordination Officer (DCO) Rashid Mehmood launched a ‘save energy’ campaign in the district and has appealed to the people and administration to implement energy serving measures. Mehmood said that a new energy saving strategy was being devised for homes, offices and business places to conserve electricity in the district.

Presiding over a meeting to review arrangements for the ‘save energy’ campaign on Saturday, the DCO said that air-conditioners would be switched-off during the morning hours in government offices and added that people, traders and officials could help reduce the gap between the electricity demand and production through need-based use and low consumption. The DCO said that extra lights should remain off at CNG stations and petrol pumps and all markets should close businesses at 8pm on a daily basis. TMAs will only keep one streetlight on out of three. A three-member committee comprising of police, revenue and Water and Power Development Agency (Wapda) officials will monitor energy saving measures at the tehsil level. The DCO suggested that the load shedding schedule should be displayed at mosques and in public squares.
