The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Tuesday released the final list of eligible candidates who will be contesting Senate 2018 elections.

The number of outgoing senators is 52. Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) currently holds the Senate majority and has 18 outgoing senators. The party has nominated 17 for the upcoming elections.



While Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has nine outgoing senators and 21 candidates in the elections -- the highest number of nominees by any party.

The number of outgoing independent senators is five, while 17 have handed in their nominations, most of them from Balochistan.

Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) has four outgoing senators, while the party has nominated a whopping 14 candidates for the upcoming elections.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has only one outgoing senator while 13 PTI candidates have had their Senate nominations accepted.

Three senators from Jamiat Ulema-e Islam (JUI-F) finish their senate terms this year, with the party nominating seven for the upcoming elections.



Pak Sarzameen Party (PSP), participating in the Senate elections for the first time, has nominated four from their party.

Awami National Party (ANP) has five outgoing senators, while they have nominated three for the upcoming elections.


National Party and Qaumi Watan Party (QWP) have no outgoing senators and have nominated three and two candidates respectively.

Four senators from Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) complete their terms in 2018 while the party has one candidate in the elections.

Pakistan Muslim League-Functional (PML-F) has one outgoing senator and it has nominated one from Sindh.

Both Balochistan National Party-Mengal (BNP-M) and Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan (JI-P) have one nominated candidate in the upcoming Senate elections.

Balochistan National Party-Awami (BNP-A) has two outgoing senators but has no candidates in the upcoming elections.

The elections are due to be held on March 3.
